Tripoli: Massad Boulos, the US Presidential Advisor for Arab and African Affairs, has confirmed the United States' support for Libyan endeavors to unify the nation's economic, security, and political institutions, which is expected to foster stability and advance the political process in Libya.
According to Libyan News Agency, Boulos, in an interview with Alhurra TV, outlined Washington's specific objective to aid Libya in these unification efforts. He highlighted the importance of enhancing security in Libya to establish it as a reliable partner for the US. Boulos emphasized that the responsibility for the details of institutional unification agreements rests with the Libyans, while affirming that the US remains in contact with key Libyan stakeholders to facilitate these efforts.
Boulos reiterated the United States' commitment to engaging with all Libyan factions to support the pursuit of lasting peace. He mentioned ongoing collaboration with the UN envoy to Libya, Hanna Tetteh, and international allies to build on the progress achieved thus far.
Furthermore, Boulos noted the success of US efforts, evident in the adoption of Libya's first unified national budget in over 13 years and the participation of Libyan forces from both the eastern and western regions in military exercises coordinated by the US Africa Command (AFRICOM). The US Presidential Advisor stressed that the ongoing support for institutional unification is crucial for reinforcing stability and creating conditions conducive to political progress in Libya.
