UN Envoy: Elections Essential to Strengthen Accountability of Libyan Institutions

Tripoli: UN Envoy Hanna Tetteh affirmed that holding elections is essential to promoting a culture of conducting elections in accordance with international standards, ensuring that responsible institutions are accountable to the Libyan people, and making them more capable of addressing economic and political challenges.

According to Libyan News Agency, in her remarks during the signing ceremony of the '4+4' mini-summit agreement, the envoy stated that holding elections is part of the efforts to strengthen institutions, emphasizing the continued work to push for peaceful elections.

She noted the support for Libyan efforts to establish crucial institutions in the areas of governance, health, the economy, and others.

The UN envoy called for maintaining the momentum generated by the signing of the agreement and working together to implement the provisions of Security Council Resolution 2542, which will contribute to moving forward to new phases and creating the necessary conditions for holding elections.
