Tripoli: The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) highlighted the critical role of Libyan citizens in influencing their country’s future, stating that their involvement is key to the ongoing political process’s success.

According to Libyan News Agency, UNSMIL urged Libyan citizens to engage in an online public survey it recently launched. This survey is part of a series of consultations regarding the Advisory Committee’s recommendations. The mission, through a statement released on Saturday, quoted a local academic who described the public consultations as progressive, expressing hope that the opinion poll would pave the way for a new roadmap based on Libyans’ feedback on the Advisory Committee’s proposals.

The Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Hannah Tetteh, along with her Deputy and a UN delegation, visited Nalut municipality last Thursday. During their visit, they conducted meetings with various mayors, community leaders, security agencies, and notables from the Nafusa Mountains region, including discussions with women and youth groups.

The mission statement revealed that Tetteh and her team listened to representatives from the Amazigh community. These representatives voiced their feelings of being marginalized within state institutions, a situation they believe adversely affects their communities. The discussions also touched on the Advisory Committee’s recommendations, with participants considering some suggestions as feasible and actionable.

UNSMIL continues its consultative meetings across different Libyan regions to ensure the political process is inclusive and reflects all citizens’ aspirations, involving diverse Libyan groups in shaping the country’s future.
