Representative in the Presidential Council, Abdullah Al-Lafi, met, on Sunday, with the Minister of Justice of the Government of National Unity, Halima Ibrahim.
The two sides discussed prison conditions and the issue of delayed sentences, which contribute to prisoners remaining for longer periods without trial.
Al-Lafi stressed the need to ensure that prisoners are treated humanely, respect their basic rights, and expedite the presentation of their cases to the judiciary.
The Minister of Justice affirmed her government’s commitment to improving the conditions of prisoners, dealing with their cases in a timely manner, and working with the concerned authorities to expedite criminal sentencing procedures.
