Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of the St. Mark Diocese received on Wednesday1/5/2024 a phone call from Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Sheikh Ahmed El-Tayyeb offering greetings ahead of the Easter celebration on Sunday 5 May.

Sheikh El-Tayyeb expressed his sincere wishes for health and well-being to Pope Tawadros II and all Christian brothers.

He emphasized that such occasions are a great opportunity for unity and solidarity among Egyptians.

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly also congratulated Coptic Egyptians on celebrating the glorious Resurrection Day.

Easter marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ, described in the New Testament as having occurred three days after his crucifixion at Calvary on Good Friday.

Based on the Coptic calendar, Coptic Easter is calculated as the first Sunday after the Passover full moon, which occurs on or after the spring equinox when daytime and night are of approximately equal duration.
