The Minister of Interior directs all civil defense detachments enter state of high alert (c) for a period of three months

The Minister of Interior, Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, directed that all civil defense detachments enter a state of high alert (C) for a period of three months.

A statement from his media office said: ‘In conjunction with the rise in temperatures, and to discuss the measures taken by the Civil Defense Directorate during these days, the Minister of Interior, Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, held a meeting at the directorate’s headquarters in the presence of the Undersecretary for Federal Security Affairs and the Minister’s Advisor, which included the Director General of Civil Defense and all civil defense directors in the governorates through the television department.’

At the beginning of the meeting, the Minister confirmed, according to the statement, that the work of the Civil Defense Directorate enjoys great support from the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

He listened to a detailed explanation of the latest statistics regarding fire incidents, especially the most recent ones, and learned about the preparatio
ns being made by the Civil Defense Directorate during this period, and how to contain and reduce these incidents and respond quickly.’

The Minister made a number of recommendations, foremost of which is the formation of special awareness-raising work teams in all governorates, and a rapid response mechanism in the event of fire accidents, stressing the importance of joint coordination with the General Traffic Directorate to facilitate the passage of civil defense vehicles to reach the site of any fire accident, stressing the importance of preparedness in particular equip the pelvic vehicles and keep them constantly on alert.”

The Minister of the Interior also directed, according to the statement, the entry of all civil defense detachments under warning (C) for a period of three months, stressing that the lives and property of citizens are important and must be preserved.

The Minister also directed the formation of a committee to close all violating sites and projects in Baghdad and the governorates, and to
dismiss the Director of Civil Defense in Basra Governorate and replace him with a competent officer, after being informed of the reality and level of accidents and inefficient performance in this governorate. He also gave the Civil Defense directors in the Karkh and Rusafa sides a month to work to reduce the percentage of fire incidents recorded within the two sectors of responsibility.’
