Shoukry discusses with UN efforts to accelerate aid to Gaza

Foreign Minister discusses efforts to expedite humanitarian aid delivery into the Gaza Strip with the UN Senior Humanitarian and Reconstruction Coordinator for Gaza Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson, Director of the Public Diplomacy Department, Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, stated that Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry conducted a phone call, with the UN Senior Humanitarian and Reconstruction Coordinator for Gaza, Ms. Sigrid Kaag.

The Spokesperson indicated that Minister Shoukry and the UN official exchanged assessments and views regarding the paths of action to put into effect the UN mechanism established in accordance with Security Council Resolution 2720 on accelerating the provision of humanitarian relief consignments to Gaza, as both sides affirmed the inevitability of increasing the flow of aid to Gaza in an adequate manner that meets the urgent needs of the residents of the Gaza Strip, in addition to the necessity of providing the needed financial and political support to endorse the cont
inued operation of service facilities and relief agencies in the Gaza Strip.

In this context, Minister Shoukry reiterated the necessity for international parties to assume their responsibilities towards ensuring the implementation of the provisions of Security Council Resolution 2720 in full, as well as the relevant General Assembly and Security Council resolutions, in addition to the decision of the International Court of Justice, including the imposition of temporary measures obliging Israel to ensure the provision of urgent humanitarian needs immediately to Gaza, stressing the necessity for Israel to remove all impediments it puts on aid access to the residents of the Strip.

Ambassador Abu Zeid added that the UN official was keen to brief Minister Shoukry of her evaluation of the consultations she carried out during her visit to the region, and ahead of the briefing by the UN official before the Security Council session, whereby Minister Shoukry emphasized Egypt’s full support for the UN official’s manda
te, and aspiration that her tasks will be successful in delivering humanitarian aid through the most direct routes to those in need and with no delay.

On her part, the UN official expressed her appreciation for the Egyptian efforts in providing and delivering humanitarian and relief aid to the Gaza Strip, affirming her keenness to maintain coordination and consultation with Egypt, so as to ensure the implementation of her mandate and increase the flow of humanitarian aid to the Strip.
