Libya Engages in Regional Dialogue on Missing Persons in North Africa and Middle East

Baghdad: Libya participated in a key meeting of experts focusing on the issue of missing persons in the North Africa and Middle East region. The gathering was organized by the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the International Commission on Missing Persons, drawing attention to this pressing humanitarian concern.

According to Libyan News Agency, Kamal Al-Siwi, Chairman of the General Authority for Research and Identification of Missing Persons, represented Libya at the summit. The event saw participation from several international organizations and countries, including Kuwait, Iraq, Yemen, and Palestine, all sharing their experiences and strategies regarding missing persons.

During the meeting, Al-Siwi delivered a briefing on Libya’s approach and achievements in handling the missing persons file. He highlighted the contributions made by the State of Libya, under the Government of National Unity, in addressing various challenges associated with this humanitarian issue.

The Libyan efforts were notably recognized during the discussions, with particular praise for the country’s success in localizing DNA analysis technology. This advancement has significantly aided in the identification of previously unidentified bodies, showcasing a remarkable stride in Libya’s handling of the missing persons challenge.
