Tripoli: Presidential Council members Musa Al-Koni and Abdullah Al-Lafi have publicly distanced the council from recent statements made by Ziad Daghim, asserting that his comments do not reflect the collective stance of the Presidential Council.

According to Libyan News Agency, Al-Koni and Al-Lafi issued a press statement clarifying that Daghim’s repeated remarks, which have been widely circulated in the media, do not constitute the official position of the Presidential Council. The deputies emphasized that Daghim, who serves as an advisor on Legislative and Electoral Affairs to Mohammed Al-Manfi, was expressing personal opinions or those of the individuals seeking his advice, rather than those of the council.

The Presidential Council members expressed surprise at Daghim assuming a media spokesperson role, suggesting that such a position was unnecessary given the council’s established mechanisms for public communication. They reiterated that the council has an official spokesperson to fulfill this role when required.

Furthermore, Al-Koni and Al-Lafi stressed that Daghim’s statements, whether recent or past, remain personal viewpoints unless they are formally endorsed by the person who solicited his opinion. Only after such endorsement can these opinions be presented to the council for consideration and potential adoption as official positions.

The deputies urged stakeholders to exercise caution in attributing opinions and positions to the Presidential Council, highlighting the importance of maintaining role clarity and respecting the principle of official representation.

In concluding their statement, Al-Koni and Al-Lafi reaffirmed their commitment to the unity and agreed-upon procedures of the Presidential Council. They underscored their dedication to expressing opinions on public matters in a manner that respects the council’s diversity and its status as a sovereign entity.
