Libya and US Discuss Energy Cooperation and Investment in Washington

Washington: A delegation from the Government of National Unity held a meeting in Washington with US State Department officials to discuss prospects for cooperation in the energy sector and the return of American companies to invest in Libya.

According to Libyan News Agency, the meeting saw participation from key figures on both sides. The Libyan delegation included Minister of Oil and Gas Khalifa Abdul Sadiq, member of the Board of Directors of the Libyan Investment Authority and Head of the Executive Team for Presidential Initiatives and Strategic Projects Mustafa Al-Manea, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy Suhail Boushiha, Advisor to the Minister of Oil Jamal Huwaisa, and member of the Office of the Minister of Oil Mohammed Zaid. The US delegation featured Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources Laura Lockman, Libya Dossier Officer Matthew Boutin, and Senior Energy Advisor for the Middle East Chrissy Bishay.

The discussions focused on encouraging US companies to reinvest in Libya and contribute to the enhancement of the oil infrastructure. There was also significant emphasis on the expansion of renewable energy projects, particularly green hydrogen, and plans to modernize the refining sector to boost national revenues.

Additionally, the meeting covered preparations for the upcoming Gas Forum in November 2025 and the Libya Energy and Economy Summit set for January 2026. These events aim to attract more international investments and partnerships in the energy sector.
