Brussels: The European Council has announced the extension of the mandate for the European Border Assistance Mission for Integrated Border Management (EUBAM-Libya) for an additional two years. This extension will carry the mission through until June 30, 2027, with an allocated budget of approximately 52 million euros for this period.
According to Libyan News Agency, the European Mission in Libya has highlighted that the EUBAM-Libya mission plays a crucial role in enhancing the capabilities of Libyan authorities in border management. This includes efforts to combat cross-border crime, such as human trafficking and migrant smuggling, as well as tackling terrorism.
The mission’s efforts include providing technical advice, operational and technical capacity-building activities, and various projects. These initiatives are supported by specialized training courses and workshops. The mission emphasizes the importance of adhering to international human rights standards and promoting a gender-sensitive approach as core aspects of its operations.
