Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stressed that “no goal can be achieved by fueling xenophobia and hatred of refugees in Turkish society.
Erdogan said in a speech today, Monday, at the consultative and evaluation meeting with the local administrations of the Justice and Development Party in Ankara: “The poisonous discourse of the opposition is one of the reasons for the sad events caused by a small group in Kayseri province, and it is impotent to resort to hatred to achieve political gains.
He expressed his complete rejection of the acts of sabotage represented by setting fire to the streets and burning shops, stressing that there was and will not be a place in the policies of the Justice and Development Party for “discrimination, exclusion and sowing enmity among people through hate speech.”
Erdogan pointed out that “burning people’s homes and setting fire to the streets is unacceptable, regardless of who is doing it,” expressing his expectation that “the wise” in the opposition will make more effort
s to prevent the recurrence of some of the scenes that were experienced in “old Turkey.” Earlier today, Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced the arrest of 67 people suspected of attacking Syrian property in Kayseri province, which witnessed riots following allegations that a Syrian man had harassed a Syrian girl of his relatives.
