Tripoli: Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dabaiba has announced that urgent measures will be taken to regulate the market and hold speculators accountable. He emphasized that controlling prices is a top priority for the government, advocating for accountability of those manipulating the prices of basic commodities and calling for the prevention of monopolistic practices and violations that could negatively affect the market and burden citizens.
According to Libyan News Agency, the announcement was made during a meeting held on Sunday, attended by several key government officials including Rashid Abu Ghafa, Secretary-General of the Cabinet Office; Suhail Abu Shiha, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy and Trade; Adel Dhuwair, Director of the Inspection and Follow-up Department at the Cabinet Office; and the Deputy Head of the Internal Security Agency. The meeting focused on developments in the pricing of basic commodities and animal feed within the local market.
The Prime Minister emphasized the necessity of implementing urgent and decisive actions to control prices, protect consumers, and ensure market stability. Discussions during the meeting included the reasons behind the recent price increases, monitoring compliance with official pricing, and exploring mechanisms to strengthen oversight of markets as well as supply and distribution outlets.
To tackle these challenges, Dabaiba instructed relevant authorities to intensify field inspection campaigns, improve coordination between the Ministry of Economy and security agencies, and activate deterrent legal measures. These steps aim to ensure the implementation of decisions on the ground, thereby protecting citizens' purchasing power.
