Libya’s Path to Unity: EU Urges Consensus for National Elections

Tripoli: All parties in Libya must put aside their factional interests to achieve common national goals. The Head of the European Union Delegation to Libya, Nicola Orlando, affirmed that broad consensus on the High National Elections Commission and the legal framework governing elections is essential for advancing Libya towards holding national elections, restoring its legitimacy, and strengthening national unity and stability.

According to Libyan News Agency, this statement came in a tweet by Orlando on Tuesday, following his meeting with the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Libya, Hanna Tetteh. During their meeting, they discussed the latest developments related to the political roadmap, including what Orlando described as encouraging progress in the mini-summit negotiations.

Orlando emphasized that inclusivity and sustained institutional and international support are two essential elements for the success of this national endeavor. He highlighted the importance of all stakeholders setting aside their partisan interests and contributing sincerely to achieving shared goals.

In his statement, Orlando also expressed the European Union's sincere gratitude, along with his personal appreciation, to the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and her team for their efforts to support peace, unity, and prosperity in Libya and the region. He wished them continued success in their work.
