Tripoli: Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dabaiba, met with the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Hannah Tetteh, to discuss the advisory committee’s findings. Dabaiba emphasized that direct elections are crucial to ending the transitional phases and enabling citizens to choose their representatives.
According to Libyan News Agency, Tetteh mentioned that the proposals from the advisory committee are not binding but serve as a foundation for further discussions. She looked forward to the government’s feedback to integrate into a more comprehensive solution. Dabaiba highlighted the need for direct elections following recent developments that question the credibility and integrity of some political entities, which he claims are operating under intimidation and illegitimate pressure.
The meeting also addressed the case of MP Ibrahim Al-Darsi, with both parties agreeing on the necessity of an international investigation into his situation. They stressed that the incident represents a serious violation that demands accountability. Dabaiba called for a secure environment to ensure independent decision-making for the House of Representatives, citing a leaked video as evidence of the lack of protection and prevalence of intimidation.
In addition, the case of the missing MP, Siham Sergiwa, was discussed, with both sides underscoring the importance of uncovering her fate as a humanitarian and national demand. Dabaiba asserted that these politically motivated crimes challenge the principles of justice and require a decisive international response to prevent impunity.
