Tripoli: The Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energies of the government mandated by the House of Representatives announced today, Sunday, that the ready-made substation in Cluster 4 in the Shibna area, east of Benghazi, was taken out of service following an attack by a citizen, resulting in a power outage in the area supplied by the station.
According to Libyan News Agency, the ministry explained, in a post on its Facebook page, that the attack caused a fire to break out in the station's switchgear panel, resulting in the station being taken out of service and the interruption of electricity to citizens in the area.
Meanwhile, the city of Bani Walid experienced a complete power outage yesterday, Saturday, coinciding with an interruption of telecommunications and internet services, amid the continuing electricity crisis affecting several Libyan cities.
The power outage continued throughout Friday night into Saturday, before electricity was restored at 4:00 a.m., only to be cut off again at 8:00 a.m.
