A presidential statement stated: "The President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, received today, at Baghdad Palace, Chargé d'Affairs of the Vatican State Embassy in Iraq, Father Charles Lawanga Sona."

The President reviewed the reasons for withdrawing Republican Decree No. (147) of 2013, stressing that the withdrawal of the Republican Decree would not prejudice the religious or legal status of Cardinal Louis Sacco, as he was appointed by the Apostolic See as Patriarch of the Chaldean Church in Iraq and the world.

For his part, Chargé d'Affairs of the Vatican Embassy in Baghdad, Father Charles Lawanga Sona, confirmed that the embassy does not have any observations on the procedures of the Presidency of the Republic.
