Al-Sour Engages with Zawiya Oil Refining Company on Fuel and Economic Concerns

Tripoli: Attorney General Siddiq Al-Sour met in his office in Tripoli with the Chairman of the Management Committee of the Zawiya Oil Refining Company, Imad Ben Koura. This comes as part of the Public Prosecution’s investigation into the activities of some public companies involved in the provision of basic commodities and fuel.

According to Libyan News Agency, the company stated in a post on its official page on Tuesday that the meeting addressed the responsibilities of the Zawiya Company and its contribution to meeting a portion of the country’s fuel needs for the local market. The meeting also discussed the budgets allocated for importing fuel from abroad, in addition to issues related to smuggling and its impact on the national economy and public finances.

The meeting further delved into the reasons behind the shutdown of local asphalt plants and the resulting shortage of asphalt needed for infrastructure, road, and bridge projects. Discussions also covered the irregular operations of the Zawiya Mineral Oil Mixing and Packaging Plant and concerns over alternative goods imported from abroad that may not meet quality specifications.

The company’s post quoted the Chairman of the Company’s Management Committee as expressing the commitment of the National Oil Corporation and the company to fulfilling their responsibilities to implement development projects, which will benefit the national economy and preserve public funds.
