Webinar arranged by Embassy of Pakistan Beirut to express solidarity with oppressed Kashmiris on the eve of 'Youm-e- Istehsal Kashmir' 2023 NNA - On the occasion of Youm-e-Istehsal Kashmir 5th August, the Embassy of Pakistan, Beirut, organized a Webinar to express solidarity with the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). The Webinar was attended by Lebanese academia, think tanks and prominent Pakistanis living in Lebanon. Keynote speakers at the event included Prof. Dr. Zahid Mehmood Zahid, Professor of International Relations, Strategic Studies Department, Air University Islamabad and Dr. Kamal Tarhini, Lebanese Political Analyst. In his opening remarks, Ambassador Salman Athar gave a brief historical overview of the Jammu and Kashmir conflict. He underscored that various resolutions by the UN Security Council were adopted, urging to hold an unbiased and equitable plebiscite under UN supervision to address the matter. Regrettably, despite initially consenting to the plebiscite in the Security Council, India instead opted for the military control of Jammu and Kashmir, stationing over 900,000 security personnel in the region. He also shed light on India's illegal action to abrogate the Articles 370 and 35 A of its Constitution and the subsequent wave of repression unleashed by Indian Army against the innocent Kashmiris. He called upon the international community to take notice of the atrocities of the Indian forces and extend their support for the people of Kashmir. The Speakers highlighted that over the last three years, the people of IIOJK have experienced severe violations of human rights by Indian Forces, coupled with unparalleled constraints on essential liberties.
