Cairo: A U.S. official affirmed that there is regional and international consensus on continuing support for Libya's unity, sovereignty, and long-term stability, alongside backing the roadmap advanced by UNSMIL and the efforts of the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative, Hanna Tetteh, aimed at advancing the political process and achieving stability in the country.
According to Libyan News Agency, U.S. Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs Massad Boulos published a tweet following a meeting in Cairo, which included discussions with Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt; His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia; and Hakan Fidan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Trkiye. The talks centered on various regional issues, with particular emphasis on the situation in Libya, highlighting the importance of continued joint cooperation to support the country's unity, sovereignty, and stability.
Boulos expressed support for the roadmap advanced by UNSMIL and the efforts of Special Representative Hanna Tetteh, including the recommendations from the UN-facilitated Structured Dialogue, as steps supporting the political process in Libya.
He also welcomed the progress made by Libyan authorities and stakeholders, including the agreement on a unified national budget, increased coordination among national institutions, and the joint participation of eastern and western Libyan forces in AFRICOM's military exercises.
Boulos emphasized the necessity of continued progress toward the unification of Libya's political, economic, and security institutions, which is essential for creating conditions conducive to nationwide elections, durable stability, and a more prosperous future for all Libyans.
