US State Department: We reject any use of violence in Libya and renew our support for the demands of the Libyan people

Tripoli, -U.S. State Department Regional Spokeswoman Hala Ghrait welcomed a pledge by UN envoy Abdoulaye Bathily to move forward to prepare for the elections and revive the security track.

In a press statements today, Ghrait stressed her country’s rejection of any use of violence in Libya, renewing Washington’s support for the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement. She said her country supported United Nations mediation, which aimed to lay a constitutional basis for holding free, fair and inclusive presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible.

She pointed out that the demands of the Libyan people to choose their leaders through free and fair elections require tireless work in accordance with the constitutional foundations of the elections, demanding that the Libyan people choose their leaders through free and fair elections, to legitimize and ensure accountability.
