UNSMIL and US Discuss Impact of Political Divisions on Libyan Economy

Tripoli: The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) and the United States have engaged in discussions regarding the adverse effects of political divisions and security instability on Libya’s economy. The meeting occurred in Tripoli and involved Hanna Tetteh, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General, and Massad Boulos, the Special Advisor to the President of the United States for African Affairs.

According to Libyan News Agency, Tetteh and Boulos explored the efforts of UNSMIL to advance the political process in Libya. Discussions included the recommendations of the Advisory Commission and the mission’s engagement with Libyan leaders and citizens. A significant focus was on the detrimental impact of political divisions and security challenges on the economic environment in the country. Both parties recognized the necessity for economic reforms to create a sustainable atmosphere for the private sector and to attract foreign investment.

The mission reported that the United States expressed strong support for the United Nations’ initiatives aimed at promoting the political process in Libya. Both parties emphasized the importance of coordinating efforts to address the ongoing challenges and to support Libya’s journey towards economic stability.
