Tripoli: The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya, Hanna Tetteh, emphasized the crucial role of individuals in supervisory positions in ensuring that elections are held in the country. Tetteh highlighted the importance of these officials understanding their responsibility in facilitating the electoral process.

According to Libyan News Agency, Tetteh discussed in an interview with UN Television, which was partially shared on the UN mission’s Facebook page, that she hopes the efforts based on the Advisory Committee’s outcomes will help achieve the goal of conducting elections. She noted the consensus among political parties in Libya to hold elections, despite differing opinions on the approach.

The UN envoy elaborated that in western Libya, the focus is not only on forming a government to lead the country toward elections but also on addressing issues such as achieving consensus on the constitution and ensuring the operational readiness of institutions responsible for managing elections. Meanwhile, in eastern Libya, the primary concern expressed was the formation of a new government to prepare for elections.

Tetteh pointed out that all institutions have exceeded their original mandates, raising concerns about their legitimacy.
