Tripoli: The National Union of Libyan Workers, in collaboration with the Libyan Network for the Support and Protection of Juvenile Delinquents and the Libyan Network for Organizing Migrant Workers, conducted a dialogue session in Tripoli titled “The Voice of Reason: The Fate of the United Nations Mission in Libya: Stay or Leave?” The session saw participation from university political science professors, Arab legislative and internet law advisors, and the Secretary-General of the Arab League.

According to Libyan News Agency, participants engaged in discussions on numerous topics, which included the role of the United Nations Mission since 2011, reviewing the causes, failures, and repercussions of the United Nations’ involvement in Libya, and exploring citizens’ opinions on the mission’s support and rejection. Other areas of focus were transparency in selecting representatives, lessons learned from the United Nations Mission, opportunities and challenges, the role of the international community, immunity of armed groups, and the role of women, youth, and the media. The session also examined the weaknesses and lack of transparency in government institutions and future prospects, along with the role of unions and civil society organizations.

The session’s primary aim was to evaluate the United Nations Mission’s efforts in facilitating a political solution to Libya’s ongoing political impasse. It sought to assess the mission’s contribution to promoting dialogue among Libyans and to explore mechanisms to enhance trust between citizens and the United Nations mission. Additionally, the session emphasized the importance of building a future characterized by peace, stability, and constructive dialogue to overcome current challenges and prevent further chaos and suffering. The dialogue provided a platform for understanding and transparency, aiming to inspire hope for a better tomorrow.
