El alamein: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi of Egypt met with Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, the Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army, in El Alamein. The meeting included key military figures such as Lieutenant General Khaled Haftar, Chief of Staff of the Security Forces; Lieutenant General Saddam Haftar, Chief of Staff of the Land Forces; and Major General Hassan Rashad, Head of the General Intelligence Service.
According to Libyan News Agency, Presidential Spokesman Mohamed El-Shenawy stated that President El-Sisi emphasized the significance of Libya’s stability as a component of Egypt’s national security. El-Sisi highlighted Egypt’s ongoing efforts, in coordination with Libyan factions and the General Command of the Libyan Army, to support Libya’s security and stability, maintain its unity and sovereignty, and revive its development trajectory. He reaffirmed Egypt’s support for initiatives aimed at achieving these objectives.
Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy further conveyed that El-Sisi reiterated Egypt’s dedication to preserving the unity and cohesion of Libyan state institutions. He underscored the importance of enhancing coordination among all Libyan parties to formulate a comprehensive political roadmap for conducting simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections. El-Sisi also highlighted the necessity of confronting foreign interference and expelling all foreign forces and mercenaries from Libyan territory.
El-Shenawy noted that El-Sisi expressed Egypt’s appreciation for the Libyan National Army’s role in combating terrorism, which has significantly contributed to the eradication of terrorist organizations in eastern Libya.
According to the presidential spokesperson, Field Marshal Haftar expressed deep appreciation for Egypt’s pivotal role in restoring security and stability in Libya. He praised Egypt’s consistent efforts in supporting the Libyan people since the onset of the crisis, emphasizing the historical ties between the two nations. Haftar also acknowledged Egypt’s contribution to transferring its development experience to Libya and utilizing the expertise of leading Egyptian companies. He affirmed the commitment to overcoming challenges to fulfill the Libyan people’s aspirations for stability and prosperity.
