Tripoli: The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Counselor Aguila Saleh, has affirmed that Lieutenant General Hussein Mohammed Al-Aib will continue his role as the head of the Libyan Intelligence Service. Al-Aib will exercise the powers legally assigned to him, following the legislation governing the agency's operations.

According to Libyan News Agency, the Speaker addressed a letter to Al-Aib, explaining that the decision is based on the provisions of the Constitutional Declaration, its amendments, the Libyan Political Agreement, and Law No. (8) of 2023 concerning the reorganization of the Libyan Intelligence Service. This decision underscores the commitment to uphold constitutional and legal legitimacy, maintain the stability of state institutions, and ensure the seamless functioning of public services.

The Speaker emphasized the importance of the Libyan Intelligence Service in fulfilling its national duties, managing its branches and units, and safeguarding its headquarters, documents, information, assets, and equipment against any unlawful actions. The political agreement mandates that decisions regarding the appointment of the head of the intelligence service require ratification by the House of Representatives.

Emphasizing the need for legal action against any violations, the Speaker called for enhanced cooperation between the intelligence service and other state institutions, as well as regional and international partners, to ensure the service fulfills its responsibilities.

Furthermore, the Speaker requested regular updates from the head of the Libyan Intelligence Service, including reports on work progress, legal measures taken, and any challenges affecting the service's duties. He urged adherence to constitutional and legal provisions to maintain the institution's unity, discipline, and independence.

Previously, the Presidential Council had decided to relieve Hussein Mohammed Al-Aib from his duties and appoint Abdulmajid Ibrahim Abdulkarim as his successor at the end of June.
