President El-Sisi Meets a Delegation from the UK House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received on Wednesday 6/3/2024 a delegation from the United Kingdom House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee, led by its Chair, Alicia Kearns.

The meeting was also attended by the British Ambassador in Cairo.

Spokesman for the Presidency, Counselor Dr. Ahmed Fahmy, said the UK delegation was keen on gaining a thorough understanding of President El-Sisi’s vision on the situation in the region, notably the situation in the Gaza Strip.

President El-Sisi reviewed Egypt’s persistent efforts to reach an agreement on a ceasefire, exchanging hostages and detainees, and providing access for humanitarian assistance into Gaza.

The President stressed the crucial need for the international community to assume its inherent responsibility to protect the Palestinians from the dire humanitarian catastrophe they have been enduring.

He underlined Egypt’s role in mobilizing and delivering humanitarian assistance and relief through the Rafah border crossing, in addition to the aid airlifts fo
r the area’s most severely affected in northern Gaza. President El-Sisi reiterated that the catastrophic humanitarian conditions in Gaza cannot afford any further delays in reaching definitive agreements on a ceasefire.

During the meeting with the UK parliamentary delegation, President El-Sisi confirmed that a lasting and just solution for tension in the Middle East is embodied in the establishment of an independent Palestinian State, in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy.

He also warned against the danger of broadening the scope and fronts of the conflict, which could jeopardize security and stability across the region, pointing out the security situation in the Red Sea and Bab-El-Mandeb Strait.

The meeting also tackled developments in ongoing crises in the region.

President El-Sisi emphasized that strengthening the structure of the nation-state in the region and reinforcing their national institutions to preserve their cohesion and unity is the only way to achieve stability and
effectively combat terrorism.

The President underscored Egypt’s position in support of states in the region in order to fulfil their peoples’ aspirations for security and stability and to overcome this difficult phase of grave crises that have plagued the stability of the peoples and their resources.

The Chair of the UK parliamentary delegation, along with the delegation members, expressed their country’s deep appreciation for Egypt’s balanced and responsible role, politically and humanely, to contain the turmoil, tensions, and conflicts in the region.

They also affirmed the UK’s position regarding the necessity of reaching a sustainable ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and opening avenues for peace in the region, emphasizing their support for Egypt’s efforts in this regard.

The meeting also touched on bilateral relations between the two countries, in light of the positive and ongoing progress achieved across all levels.
