Benghazi, Libyan National Security Adviser Ibrahim Bushnaf met in Benghazi on Friday with the UN Secretary-General’s Special Adviser on Libya, Stephanie Williams, to discuss several important files on the situation in Libya.

The meeting discussed the mediation effort led by the United Nations Mission in Libya on political, economic and security tracks.

The two sides exchanged views on moving forward with regard to the electoral process, stressing the need to respect the Libyan people’s demands for fair, free and credible elections. Bushnaf outlined the work mechanism of the National Security Council established under Law No. 4 of 2007, his role in establishing the pillars of peace in Libya, and his work to respect the right of the Libyan people to choose their representatives through the ballot boxes.

He stressed that the Libyan people have the right to choose their president and parliament through the ballot box, freely and without any local or international pressure, pointing out that the most important thing than holding elections is to accept their results.
