Benghazi: The first National Forum for Health System Development was inaugurated in Benghazi, organized by the House of Representatives and the National Center for Health System Development. The event marks a significant step in Libya’s efforts to reform its health sector.

According to Libyan News Agency, the forum brought together a wide range of participants, including members from legislative and executive bodies, healthcare and medical education institutions, and experts from various fields. Over the course of two days, the forum aims to outline a national vision for health system reform through discussions, presentations, workshops, and open meetings. These activities are designed to foster institutional integration and strengthen networks between public and private health sector stakeholders.

Rasha Al-Haddad, a member of the forum’s Supreme Preparatory Committee, explained that the National Center for Health System Development was established out of an urgent need to reconstruct Libya’s health system. The center’s approach focuses on primary health care development, prevention, partnerships with the private sector and civil society, quality medicine availability, and sustainable health financing.

The first day of the forum featured a dialogue session on state institutions’ adherence to legislative mandates and the challenges in their implementation. Discussions also covered cooperation between the Ministry of Health and parliamentary committees, and the obstacles to creating a sustainable health system. The National Center’s strategy to overcome institutional stagnation was also presented.

As the forum concludes, the National Center is set to announce the formation of 16 expert committees, with seven beginning their work immediately, marking a proactive step toward health system reform.

This inaugural forum serves as a foundational step toward knowledge-based health reform, aiming to enhance efficiency and sustainability in health services for Libyans.
