Libyan Ministry and UNODC Discuss Strategies to Combat Transnational Crime

Tripoli: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation is in discussions with the United Nations to enhance joint efforts in combating organized and transnational crime. Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Expatriate Affairs, Mohammed Saeed Zeidan, met with the Regional Representative of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) for the Middle East and North Africa, Cristina Albertin, to explore cooperation in this crucial area.

According to Libyan News Agency, the meeting took place at the Ministry's headquarters in Tripoli and was attended by the Director of the Department of International Organizations, Sufian Balkhair. Both parties reiterated the significance of ongoing consultation and coordination to bolster efforts against organized and transnational crime in all its manifestations.

Zeidan highlighted the significant role of the UNODC in tackling issues like irregular migration, organized crime, and drug trafficking within the region. He underscored the need for enhancing collaborative efforts to address these challenges effectively.

Cristina Albertin expressed appreciation for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Government of National Unity. She acknowledged their facilitation of necessary procedures, which aids the UN organization in fulfilling its duties and reducing organized crime in various forms.
