Libyan-Greek Parliamentary Efforts Focus on Frozen Libyan Funds Abroad

Athens: The House of Representatives' Committee for Verifying and Monitoring Frozen Libyan Funds Abroad, led by Representative Yousef Al-Aqouri, met with Dimitris Kyridis, Chairman of the National Defense and Foreign Affairs Committee of the Greek Parliament, in Athens. This meeting was part of an initiative to enhance parliamentary cooperation between Libya and Greece.

According to Libyan News Agency, House of Representatives spokesperson Abdullah Blihaq stated that the meeting focused on supporting Libyan initiatives concerning frozen Libyan funds abroad. Discussions centered around developing mechanisms for monitoring these funds to boost transparency and adherence to Security Council resolutions, benefiting the Libyan state.

Kyridis expressed Greece's commitment to supporting efforts that benefit the Libyan people. He pledged to relay the meeting's outcomes to the Greek Prime Minister, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other relevant bodies, reaffirming Greece's support for Libya's demands.

The Greek parliamentary committee chairman highlighted the significance of parliamentary diplomacy as a means of direct communication between nations. He expressed a desire to enhance bilateral relations with Libya, particularly in energy, infrastructure, marine resources, and combating illegal immigration.

Additionally, the committee met with Ioannis Plakiotatis, First Deputy Speaker of the Greek Parliament. Discussions included strengthening joint coordination and the role of parliamentary diplomacy in regional security and stability. Plakiotatis promised to convey Libya's stance on frozen assets to the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Libyan delegation included Youssef Al-Aqawi, head of delegation MP Ibrahim Al-Aqouri, MP Omar Tantoush, Chairman of the Planning, Finance, and General Budget Committee, and Ambassador Murad Hamima.
