Kuwait city: Libya has been chosen to host the 53rd meeting of the Regional Commission for the Middle East of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). The decision was made unanimously by the participating countries during the 52nd meeting, which took place in Kuwait and saw the participation of several tourism ministers from member states, the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Jassem Al-Budaiwi, and representatives from the UNWTO.
According to Libyan News Agency, the selection of Libya as the next host is seen as a major achievement for the Libyan delegation, led by Minister Nasr al-Din al-Fazzani, who presented a comprehensive report demonstrating the progress and potential of Libya’s tourism sector. The report was instrumental in convincing the participants of Libya’s capability to host international events.
Minister Al-Fazzani expressed his gratitude to the Government of National Unity (GNU) for its ongoing support of the tourism sector through the “Return to Life” project
. He noted that this decision is a testament to Libya’s growing presence on the regional and international stage and reflects positive trends in the recovery of its tourism industry, as well as renewed international confidence in Libya’s organizational capabilities.
The minister highlighted that hosting the UNWTO meeting represents a significant step toward reestablishing Libya’s position on the regional tourism map and supports efforts to foster greater integration with its Arab and international neighbors.
