Bamako: Libya and Mali are set to enhance their cooperation in tourism and traditional industries following a high-level meeting between Libyan Minister of Tourism and Traditional Industries, Nasr al-Din Milad al-Fazani, and Malian Minister of Traditional Industries, Culture, Hotel Industry, and Tourism, Mamou Daffé. The discussions focused on developing mechanisms for coordination and exchanging expertise to support development and strengthen bilateral relations. According to Libyan News Agency, this meeting occurred during the 12th session of the Conference of Ministers of the Organization for the Development and Promotion of African Traditional Industries (ODEPA) in Bamako, Mali. The event, held from July 2 to 4, also saw the participation of Othman Mohammed Daw al-Hatmani, the Chargé d'Affaires of the Libyan Embassy in Mali. Both ministers underscored the importance of expanding joint cooperation. The Malian Minister expressed appreciation for Libya's active participation in the conference and reaffirme d Mali's commitment to ongoing coordination and cooperation to serve shared interests and bolster fraternal relations. Libya was represented at the conference by Minister Nasr al-Din al-Fazzani. The gathering also included the Secretary-General of the OAPIC, Fidel Elbodo, and representatives from various member states. During the conference, the organization's main amended founding texts, including the Statute and Internal Regulations, were adopted and signed. These documents had been initially adopted at the previous Ministerial Conference in Brazzaville. Before the ministerial meeting, an experts' session was conducted on July 1 and 2, 2026, to deliberate on technical and legal proposals aimed at developing the organization's regulatory frameworks. These proposals were then submitted for ministerial approval. The African Organization for the Development and Promotion of Traditional Industries (ODIPA) plays a crucial role in strengthening traditional industries and handicrafts across its member states. It supports national policies, enhances artisans' capacities, encourages innovation, preserves craft heritage, and promotes regional cooperation to drive sustainable economic development, job creation, and the preservation of African cultural identity.
