Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said that Iraq and the Kurdistan region must address Iran’s concerns about the presence of “terrorist” groups in this region, disarm them, and resettle them in the agreed-upon headquarters within a period of six months, noting that: “Part of this agreement has been implemented , but not all of it.”

Nasser Kanaani said in his weekly press conference regarding the security agreement between Iran and Iraq: “The Iraqi authorities and the local government of the northern Iraq region must address Iran’s concerns about the presence of terrorist groups in this region, disarm them, and resettle them in the agreed-upon headquarters within a period of six months.”

He explained: “This time limit expired on September 19, and based on our assessment, some parts of this agreement were implemented, but not all of it, and the Iranian evaluation team traveled to Iraq to evaluate the precise level of implementation of the agreement on the ground,” pointing out that “it was accompanied by very good cooperation from the Iraqi authorities.

He added, “The detailed assessment of this issue will be discussed with the Iraqi side after submitting the field investigation report to the Iranian oversight authority.”

Regarding the talks between the two sides, Kanaani stated that “the Iraqi authorities and the authorities of Iraqi Kurdistan consider themselves obligated to implement the agreement, and said that a large part of the headquarters of terrorist armed groups had been evacuated and disarmed and moved deep into Iraqi territory, in addition to the complete destruction of some of their headquarters.”
