Khartoum: International organizations affiliated with the United Nations have issued an urgent appeal for $6 billion in aid to support civilians caught in the crossfire of the ongoing conflict between the Sudanese army and the “Rapid Support” forces.

According to Libyan News Agency, a joint statement from the relevant United Nations organizations reveals that Sudan is facing one of its most devastating crises. The conflict, which has persisted for nearly two years, has led to a catastrophic protection crisis, displacing 12 million people and wreaking havoc across the nation.

The statement highlights the dire situation for civilians, who continue to suffer casualties and injuries. Critical infrastructure, including hospitals and markets, has been destroyed, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis. With about two-thirds of the population in urgent need of assistance, the country is teetering on the brink of famine.

The United Nations and its partners have set a target to aid approximately 26 million people in Sudan and the surrounding region. This effort is part of the “Humanitarian and Refugee Response Plan 2025,” specifically launched to address the ongoing crisis in Sudan.
