House of Representatives Engages in 2025 Women Parliamentarians Conference in Mexico

Mexico City: The House of Representatives participated in the 2025 International Conference of Women Parliamentarians, organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in cooperation with the Mexican Senate, in Mexico City, Mexico, from March 13 to 16, 2025.

According to Libyan News Agency, a statement by House of Representatives spokesperson Abdullah Blihaq on Monday revealed that the House was represented at the conference by MP Rabia Aburas, a member of the Parliamentary Division of the IPU.

Blihaq outlined that the conference focused on achieving parliamentary parity and enhancing women’s roles in decision-making. It addressed the challenges faced by female parliamentarians and explored possible solutions for equitable participation in legislative work.

MP Aburas’s engagement in the conference underscored support for women’s empowerment, sustainable development policies, and the fight against political, social, and electronic violence. It also emphasized leveraging international experiences to foster inclusive political participation and representation for women, both in Libya and globally, as noted by Blihaq.

The spokesperson highlighted that the conference concluded with a document outlining numerous recommendations and steps to ensure equal opportunities for women and men, while combating violence and discrimination against women and girls.

The conference saw the attendance of Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the Secretary-General of the Union, the Speaker of the Parliament of C´te d’Ivoire, and numerous female parliamentarians and political leaders from across the globe.
