New york: Permanent Representative of Libya to the UN, Taher El-Sunni, stated that Libya's Independence Day on December 24th serves as a crucial national milestone. He emphasized its importance in renewing hope for establishing a stable state, noting that Libyans had hoped this day would align with the anniversary of elections initially set for 2021, a goal yet to be achieved. According to Libyan News Agency, El-Sunni highlighted in a tweet that the failure of the electoral process is not due to a lack of initiatives or solutions, but is rooted in the nature of the crisis itself. He described it as a purely political crisis marked by an ongoing cycle of transitional phases. El-Sunni further elaborated that the extension of these phases, coupled with foreign interventions, has deepened the political deadlock, obstructing a comprehensive settlement that meets Libyans' aspirations for building legitimate and lasting institutions. El-Sunni asserted that overcoming the current crisis demands genuine political wi ll to end temporary paths and initiate a clear political process. Such a process should lead to fair and transparent elections that reflect the free will of the Libyan people, thereby ushering in a new era of stability and reinforcing national sovereignty.
