Tripoli: A dialogue session titled ‘Libya in the African Context and the Future Prospects of Agenda 2063’ was held in Tripoli by the ‘Tafaseel’ Organization for Development and Culture. This event marked the 63rd anniversary of the founding of the Organization of African Unity (OAU), celebrated on May 25th each year.

According to Libyan News Agency, the session brought together diplomats, academics, researchers, youth representatives, and civil society organizations to discuss the future of Libyan-African relations and the role of youth in the African project. The discussions focused on the evolution of joint African action since the OAU’s inception in 1963, leading to the African Union’s formation. Participants reviewed key institutions such as the African Peace and Security Council, the Pan-African Parliament, and the Economic, Social and Cultural Council, alongside Agenda 2063, the continent’s long-term strategic vision.

The session highlighted the African Union’s Economic, Social, and Cultural Council’s role in encouraging youth and civil society participation within the Union’s institutions. Discussions included various continental initiatives on youth, development, and peace against the backdrop of economic, digital, and institutional changes across Africa.

Participants stressed that enhancing Libya’s engagement with Africa would strengthen its regional influence and expand its contribution to the African Union’s institutions. Attendees included representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, former Ambassador to the African Union, Saleh Sahboun, and former Head of the Planning Component for the North Africa Region, Mohamed Al-Shaibani.
