Convicted of corruption cases.. 3 years imprisonment for the former Pakistani PM

The former Prime Minister Imran Khan was convicted today, Saturday, of corruption and sentenced to 3 years in prison in a case related to the sale of gifts he received while in office, Pakistani television announced.

Pakistan TV added: "Judge Humayun Dilawar announced that involvement in corrupt practices has been proven." Khan did not attend the hearing, and the judge ordered his arrest.

Meanwhile, the Pakistani police said they had arrested the former Prime Minister in Lahore.

Legal experts say that the conviction in the case may eliminate Khan's chances of participating in the national elections scheduled to be held before November.
