House Speaker, Nabih Berri, on Tuesday met at the Second Presidency in Ain El-Tineh, with the UN’s Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, and his accompanying delegation, in the presence of the UN Special Coordinator in Lebanon, Joanna Wronecka, the Commander of UNIFIL Forces, Major General Aroldo Lázaro, and Speaker Berri’s Media Advisor Ali Hamdan.

Discussions reportedly touched on the general situation in Lebanon and the region, as well as field developments in light of Israel’s continued aggression on the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.

Lacroix affirmed “the commitment of the Secretary-General and the United Nations towards Lebanon and their continued efforts with the international community to reduce the escalation and reach a permanent ceasefire.”

Speaker Berri hailed “the efforts made by the international peacekeeping forces at this stage and their testimony to the daily Israeli escalation that affects deep into residential areas, civilians, and even ambulances and media
personnel, violating not only UN Resolution 1701 but all rules of engagement.”

On the other hand, Speaker Berri received in Ain El-Tineh, Qatari Ambassador to Lebanon, Sheikh Saud bin Abdul Rahman bin Faisal Thani, with whom he discussed the general situation in Lebanon and the region, as well as the political and field developments.
