Audit Bureau and UNSMIL Discuss Governance and Anti-Corruption in Libya

Tripoli: The Audit Bureau and the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) held a meeting to discuss strategies for strengthening governance and combating corruption in the country. Khaled Shakshak, Head of the Audit Bureau, met with UNSMIL's delegation, which included Stephanie Khoury, Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Political Affairs, and Ulrika Richardson, Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General and UN Resident Coordinator in Libya. The discussions focused on the priority area of governance and institutional reform.

According to Libyan News Agency, the meeting emphasized the Audit Bureau's role in supporting anti-corruption measures and highlighted the importance of technical cooperation with the international community. The focus was on implementing the United Nations Convention against Corruption, enhancing the effectiveness of oversight bodies, and reinforcing transparency, integrity, and accountability.

The discussions also covered the structured dialogue outcomes, particularly regarding economic reform and governance. Both parties explored future steps to bolster institutional reforms, improve oversight mechanisms, and enhance cooperation with international partners to aid state efforts in corruption combat and public funds protection.

The Audit Bureau reiterated its dedication to combatting corruption, protecting public finances, establishing principles of good governance and accountability, and improving public resource management efficiency. These efforts aim to achieve sustainable development and serve the public interest effectively.
