Tripoli: The Presidential Council has announced significant changes in the leadership of Libya's General Intelligence Service by relieving Hussein Mohammed Al-Aib of his duties and appointing Abdulmajid Ibrahim Abdulkarim as the new head. Abdulshafi Hussein Mohammed has been named Deputy Head for Public Affairs and External Communication.
According to Libyan News Agency, the Presidential Council's decisions were outlined in a statement issued by its media office, confirming that these changes are effective immediately, with any conflicting provisions repealed. The statement also emphasized the requirement for relevant authorities to implement these decisions promptly.
The Council's media office stated that the decisions followed a meeting held on Sunday, where agenda items were discussed and unanimously approved. The Council highlighted its commitment to exercising constitutional and sovereign powers to serve the state's best interests. However, council member Musa al-Koni, who was reportedly absent from the meeting, issued a statement contradicting this narrative.
Al-Koni clarified that he participated in the meeting via electronic communication and denied reports of his absence. He criticized the earlier statement issued in the Presidential Council's name, claiming it contained inaccuracies. Al-Koni stressed that despite extensive discussions, no consensus or agreement was reached on the appointments of the General Intelligence Service head or the Libyan Army's Chief of Staff.
