Arab Charter Committee concludes review of Bahrain’s second periodic report

Bahrain’s major human rights strides have been praised by the Arab Human Rights Committee (Charter Committee), which oversees the implementation of the Arab Charter on Human Rights, during the closing session of the panel’s review of the Kingdom of Bahrain’s second periodic report.

Addressing the session, Ambassador Dr. Yousef Abdulkarim Bucheeri, Director-General of Legal Affairs and Human Rights at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who headed the Bahraini delegation, affirmed that throughout its history, the kingdom has been a leader in preserving and protecting human rights, as well as in backing all endeavours and initiatives aimed at promoting those rights.

He affirmed that the kingdom’s keenness to submit its second periodic report to the Charter Committee in a serious and transparent manner reflects its willingness to promote and protect human rights at all levels, in addition to its pride in and genuine commitment to the international instruments to which it is a party.

Ambassador Bucheeri emphasis
ed that Bahrain, which is an adamant supporter of every Arab effort aimed at developing the human rights system, spares no effort to back endeavours to develop the Arab human rights development process, be it through the Arab Charter on Human Rights or the Charter Committee.

During the review session, the Bahraini delegation briefed members of the Charter Committee on the progress made by the kingdom in the field of human rights.

Chairman and members of the Charter Committee praised the significant and tangible progress made by the Kingdom in the human rights field, citing Bahrain’s achievements, initiatives, programmes and projects aimed at promoting and protecting human rights.

Head of the Bahraini delegation and Counselor Jaber Al Marri, Chairman of the Charter Committee, participated in the joint press conference held following the review of the kingdom’s second periodic human rights report.

The Kingdom’s delegation comprised representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Interior
, the Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments, the Ministry of Labour, the Ministry of Social Development, the Ministry of Education, the Supreme Council for Women, the Office of the Ombudsman, the Legislation and Legal Opinion Commission, the Special Investigation Unit, and the Labour Market Regulatory Authority.
