Al-Menfi Urges Resumption of Tripartite Dialogue in Libyan Cities

Tripoli: The Head of the Presidential Council, Mohammed Al-Menfi, has called for the resumption of tripartite dialogue aimed at national reconciliation in Libya. He suggested that the talks could take place in Sirte, Benghazi, Ghadames, or another Libyan city. The dialogue would involve observers from national parties and the Quartet, which includes the Arab League, the African Union, the European Union, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, along with ambassadors from influential countries. The goal of these discussions is to pave the way for a comprehensive political process that would lead to the unification of institutions and the holding of general elections.

According to Libyan News Agency, Al-Menfi issued a statement on Thursday night, welcoming all national initiatives that aim to achieve national reconciliation, unify institutions, and strengthen dialogue among Libyans. He emphasized that these efforts should ultimately lead to elections.

In the statement, a copy of which was received by WAL, Al-Menfi expressed a positive view of the call made by Dr. Osama Hammad, an influential figure representing broad segments of the nation, to resume the tripartite dialogue. The dialogue initially began under the auspices of the Arab League in Cairo in March 2024. Al-Menfi described this initiative as a path that strengthens national ownership, respects sovereignty and existing constitutional frameworks, and avoids the selective imposition of a fait accompli that threatens the concept of the state, its unity, and its stability.
