Cairo- The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Government of National Unity, Najla Al-Mangoush, stressed that the position of the Government of National Unity rejecting the return of war entails a historic responsibility that the Libyan issue is not just an item on the agenda of the Council of the Arab League and in other international forums.

During her chairmanship of the current session of the Council of the Arab League, Al-Mangoush said that with the tireless work and national will and with the support of our Arab brothers, we will be able to hold national elections in accordance with just and fair laws and create the appropriate conditions for holding them in all Libyan regions, and achieve the will of more than 2 Libyan people who received the cards to participate in the elections late last year.

Al-Mangoush conveyed the call of the Government of National Unity to the legislative authority to fulfill its legislative commitment and complete the constitutional rule and laws governing it, to conduct the elections, and affirmed continued readiness to implement the elections through the provision of logistical and security services, including its support to the High National Election Commission.

“The stability of Libya is a regional and international interest and commitment to the security of Libya’s neighbors is a principled obligation, and that the threat of terrorism and its return to target the safe and innocent and the interests of our countries has not disappeared and combating it is a responsibility of solidarity between all of us and our international partners, Al Mangoush said.

She pointed out that Libya, which has suffered from the scourge of terrorism and its dangers, will focus its efforts today on strengthening the capabilities of border guards and security agencies and develop the capabilities of our security institutions in a way that enhances our internal and external security in the face of terrorism and controls all the country’s ports and crossings.

The Foreign Minister called for reactivating the Quartet on Libya, so that the League of Arab States can work with the United Nations, the African Union and the European Union and coordinate regional and UN efforts to implement the commitments of all parties to the decisions of the Political Dialogue Forum sponsored by the United Nations and the Berlin 1-2 Conferences.

Al Mangoush also called for the next consultative meeting at the level of Arab Foreign Ministers to be held in Tripoli, which was previously held almost a year before hosting an international conference to support Libya’s stability, and is now more determined to restore Libya’s role in supporting stability and peace in the region and its African and European surroundings.

During her speech, Al-Mangoush touched on a number of Arab issues on the agenda of the session, including the central issue “Palestine” and the practices it is subjected to which are aimed at Judaizing Jerusalem and expanding settlement projects, as well as the Yemeni crisis, the conflict in Syria and the situation in Lebanon.
