Tripoli: Minister of Economy and Trade in the Government of National Unity, Mohammed Al-Hawij, has announced a comprehensive vision designed to protect consumers, stabilize prices, and eliminate currency smuggling. This plan involves preparing a guiding import budget aimed at ensuring market regulation and directing genuine demand.
According to Libyan News Agency, Al-Hawij stated that the Ministry of Economy and Trade is committed to executing its legal duties without hesitation. This will be done in direct coordination with relevant regulatory and security authorities to eliminate corruption, dismantle monopoly networks, and assert state authority in the Libyan market.
The ministry plans to publish lists of imported goods periodically, along with their guiding prices, to allow citizens to review and monitor prices. This initiative is expected to contribute to curbing price manipulation and safeguarding consumer interests.
Al-Hawij assured that the ministry's campaigns will persist until trade in the country is regulated and illegal practices are extinguished. This is despite attempts to obstruct the ministry from achieving its role and national objectives.
Furthermore, he highlighted that honest merchants and those supporting the national economy will receive benefits. Conversely, the ministry will work resolutely to combat currency smugglers and others exploiting citizens' livelihoods, in full coordination with relevant regulatory bodies.
The minister called on all media outlets to exercise accuracy and obtain information from official sources, underscoring the ministry's readiness to respond to inquiries and clarify any ambiguities for the public.
