Valletta: The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Taher Al-Baour, paid an official visit to the Republic of Malta, where he held a meeting with Ian Borg, the Maltese Minister of Foreign Affairs.

According to Libyan News Agency, the visit was organized following an invitation from the Maltese side. The two ministers initially held a closed meeting, which was later expanded to include delegations from both nations for broader discussions. A significant portion of their dialogue focused on enhancing bilateral relations and exploring opportunities for development in various sectors to benefit the two countries.

The discussions also addressed several urgent issues, including illegal immigration and strategies to improve cooperation in border management. Both countries expressed a commitment to bolster joint efforts between their coast guard units. Additionally, they emphasized supporting development initiatives aimed at tackling the root causes of migration.

The ministers underscored the need for ongoing political dialogue on mutual concerns and exchanged perspectives on current international matters, specifically the situation in Ukraine and the Middle East. The Maltese Foreign Minister shared Malta’s intention to recognize the State of Palestine during the next United Nations General Assembly session, highlighting the alignment of views between Malta and Libya on these topics.

Maritime border issues were also on the agenda, with both sides agreeing on the necessity of addressing matters that could lead to productive cooperation. They prioritized bilateral discussions but left room for expanding to multilateral talks if other countries became involved.

The meeting concluded with both parties affirming their dedication to maintaining communication and coordination to enhance bilateral cooperation and address shared interests.
