US Embassy Mourns Loss of Libyan Military Leaders in Plane Crash

Tripoli: The U.S. Embassy in Tripoli expressed its condolences to the Libyan people following the tragic plane crash that resulted in the death of Lieutenant General Mohammed al-Haddad, Chief of the General Staff of the Libyan Army, along with several of his companions. The crash occurred as they were returning from an official mission in Ankara, Turkey.

According to Libyan News Agency, the Embassy remembered Lieutenant General al-Haddad as a professional and dedicated officer who consistently prioritized Libya's national interest. He was recognized as one of the United States' most prominent partners in efforts to enhance military professionalism and unify Libyan security institutions.

The Embassy also mourned the loss of Lieutenant General al-Fitouri Ghraibil, a key member of the Joint Military Commission (5+5). He was praised for his pivotal role in advancing and implementing the 2020 ceasefire agreement, and was described as a trusted and valued partner of the United States.

Additionally, condolences were extended to Brigadier General Mahmoud al-Qatawi, Director of the Military Manufacturing Authority; Mr. Mohammed al-Asawi Diab, Advisor to the Chief of the General Staff; and Mr. Mohammed Omar Ahmed Mahjoub from the Media Office.

The embassy concluded its statement by acknowledging Libya's commemoration of its Independence Day, honoring General Mohamed al-Haddad's dedication to building a unified, sovereign, and stable Libya. The United States reiterated its support for Libyan-led efforts towards a secure and peaceful future that aligns with the aspirations of the Libyan people.
