Tripoli: The US Embassy in Libya has aligned with the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) in urging for calm in the wake of intensifying tensions reported in the capital city, Tripoli.
According to Libyan News Agency, the US Embassy conveyed its stance through a tweet posted on its Twitter account, the X platform, expressing concern over the situation in Tripoli. The UN Mission has previously stated that it is closely observing reports of military activities and increasing tensions in both Tripoli and the larger western region. UNSMIL has called on all parties involved to de-escalate immediately, refrain from provocative actions, and engage in constructive dialogue to resolve disagreements.
The UN Mission has reiterated its full backing for any efforts directed at achieving a peaceful resolution. This includes initiatives spearheaded by local notables and social leaders. Additionally, the Mission highlighted the crucial responsibility of all parties to ensure the protection of civilians amidst the unrest.
Media outlets and social media have been circulating videos depicting military mobilizations and movements both within and outside the capital. Despite these reports, no official statements or clarifications have been issued by the government or any security and military authorities regarding the situation.
