Tripoli: EU Ambassador to Libya, Nicola Orlando, has reiterated the European Union’s commitment to fostering a free and competent media landscape in Libya, emphasizing its critical role in the development of a strong and prosperous society.

According to Libyan News Agency, Orlando expressed these sentiments in a tweet, highlighting the EU’s pride in supporting media development initiatives in Libya. He stated that strengthening press freedom is vital for building democratic institutions and enhancing transparency throughout the nation. Orlando also pointed to the valuable contributions of Libyan journalists who participate in training programs and initiatives, aimed at supporting an independent and effective media environment.

This announcement coincided with World Press Freedom Day, an annual event that underscores the importance of professional media in promoting dialogue and building trust between citizens and institutions.
